a fashion moment
i totally love this look. just spotted it here in the mail online. which i wouldn't normally read, but got directed there by some huff post link to something else (which may or may not have involved the gorgeous johnny depp). i've always loved the quirkiness of helena bonham carter and although i think of her as someone who wears black, i love that she's wearing white. and that she looks like a normal person going about her life. that warms my heart. and so i had to share.
i guess i've been thinking about clothes for the past week or so, as everyone's summer wardrobes come out and they go a bit nuts, because summer is so fleeting here in these northern climes. and we all go a little crazy in with the sunshine and all that light and tend to embrace it in the wackiest clothing combinations. even me. and helena.

I've never understood fashion for the sake of fashion. What I do like and enjoy are clothes worn for the purpose of doing something. Not necessarily uniforms - but the clothes of a baker or bricklayer ... a professional sports player ... a member of a symphony orchestra ... the flagger holding a warning sign for roadwork ... a sheep shearer's leather apron. Yes, purposeful clothes mean something and I appreciate that.
I think with her and tim that normal is relative, right? but isn't her daughter adorable too? i will keep pantelettes out of my wardrobe i think.
I didn't realize it was her until you said it! I'm really not sure about her clothes, but I love what her little daughter is wearing!
Hmmm very rag dolly looking!
Oh her daughter is adorable. She looks slightly less disasterous than usual. I really don't 'get' her at all. I'm all for eccentricity and quirkyness etc but she always looks like a bag lady. It upsets me, she's so beautiful and surely should be clad in Edwardian gear the whole time?
So so so many fashun mistakes in London Town today. It was upsetting.
She looks a bit like Raggedy Ann to me. But I agree that it is fascinating seeing all of the summery garb being taken out of mothballs. I wore a sheer white cotton skirt today . . . it was THAT hot.
am I supposed to know who this is? Am I really that old? Is this the state of fashion to come to Illinois? Oh my, I don't think I can pull off the Raggedy Anne look. Or the bag lady. I think I'm in trouble
I've always though of her as the epitome of british elegance and class. I hardly recognized her. She looks exhausted.
she's so awesome.
and why not! embrace and enjoy
definitely an interesting look. i think my husband would consider sleeping on the couch if i even tried wearing bloomers to bed, let alone out of the house! but i agree, little Nell (?) is adorable.
Okay, BUT - you have to check this link to the fabulous Go Fug Yourself girls to get a better look at her shoes. Pantaloons, Raggedy-Ann yada yada whatever, but those SHOES!!!

only HBC could get away with it...the child, however is so adorable i can't take it!
I agree with the bag lady look that spudbaloo commented about. However, I say, whatever you do, just rock it, and HBC seems to do just that. (Just realized that HBC is also Hermit Book Club. Maybe we should invite HBC to join?)
that is a funny picture - her posture, off balance on one leg, is what really gets me.
I keep coming back to this picture (and post). I really like it, too, and on many levels. The outfit looks comfy (and soooo adorable on her daughter!). But it also just looks like fun, non-conformity, so-not-serious, and yet real. Thanks for sharing!
Yup. People go a little nuts up here. It's all part of the charm. :)
