it's no secret that a few years ago i had a fulbright scholarship to study in the balkans. i've written about that several times here on the blog, mostly because it's where i met husband and if i hadn't gotten it, i don't know how we would ever have met (shudders and blood runs cold thinking of that one).
but here's the kicker. getting a fulbright totally devalued the fulbright in my eyes. because i figured if even i could get one, it must be easy. the mystique was totally gone. it must be that they hand them out like candy. (frankly i feel a little bit that way about Blog of Note now that i got it too, tho' i'm not as ready to say that out loud, so please just whisper it to yourself.)

So I says to my mate, now that I've won the super sized Lotto, ya know what, it ain't no big deal.
Say it ain't so! I can almost relate, but I'm really hoping that once the PhD is done, I celebrate it, if even for a minute.
Ech, a crash-boom upstairs. Must go put out fire/find husband to figure out what that was...
believe me, they are not that easy to come by. :)
I don't know what a fulbright is...alas that is meaningless to me. But I'm sure they don't get handed out like candy!
I don't think so, you have to have a pretty interesting blog to have blog of note, methinks.
Maybe it's just that standards have been lowered since you were given those particular honors. I'd say that's true of BoN. The recent ones seem pretty unremarkable when you consider the vast sea of truly remarkable blogs out there. Of course, if I ever win BoN my opinion will immediately change :-).
Very Groucho Marx! ("I would never join a club that would have me as a member.") Or something. Hubs got a Fullbright too and he's wicked smart, so you must be too.
The BoN thing -- I actually make up stories in my head about the folks who do the selecting. There are always illegal substances involved. Sometimes they pick some absolute gems though. Because (I've heard) sometimes illegal substances make you brilliant! ;)
