living in a windmill or a girl can dream

my desire to live in a windmill is growing. there's something so romantic about them. and the idea of living within that rounded space just appeals. think of the decorating possibilities alone. a round dining table. built-in couches with loads of pillows around the edges of a big room, walls lined with books. when we went to see the loom the other day, this beauty was right across the road. nobody lives in this one and you could drive your car under it, but isn't it just so romantic? especially since i antiqued it in lightroom.

it was quite lovely, even in the snow.

then, we saw this one over in jylland. these people clearly ARE living in it and it looks wonderful even tho' its windmill bit is gone. you'd still have that fabulous rounded shape and all those stories, winding ever upward to a little room at the top, designed just for writing.

and there's this one down on møn. it has some bits of its windmill left. and i just love the almost russian onion dome shape of the top of it.

but i could also be talked into a lighthouse.

Beautiful!!! They're hard to come by in Texas, but I would still love to live in one.

You should do a "Eric Sloane" and photograph or sketch all the windmills, lighthouses, barns and other antiquities you can find. When they're gone they simply do not come back.

It would make a lovely home in a windmill.(or lighthouse) You have shown us some great photos of them. I agree with Bill! I would love to see that.

Beautiful pictures. A few years ago a lighthouse was for sale on our island. We talked about it but in the end didn't go for it.
Looking forward to see what kind of 'farm' you will move to.

Have a lovely evening.

You and me both! I love the idea of living in a windmill or a lighthouse, as long as there is plenty of light.

Then it is decided. The only thing that can possibly make up for the loss of the blue room is a windmill (or a lighthouse, if necessary). Please let your family know these are my conditions, for, yes, a girl CAN and DOES dream...

OOh, I say go for it! That would be ultra cool.

I would love to live in one too. Convincing the other half would be a bit of a problem though. I would also like to live in a barn. I guess I have to settle to live in a
carriage house (tucked into the corner of our garage) definetly unique and easy to keep clean and organized!

You are totally and windmill living person!

Please live in one!

I woud like to live in an old watermill, or somewhere that has a turret. Preferably a two or three story turret. so that my kitchen table can go in the turret, and on the next floor i could have a turret crafting/arting/reading room. If it was 3 stories I'd have my bed in one facing a window too.

I don't think I'd enjoy all the steps, but I like the idea of the built in couch and all the pillows!

The possibilities are endless for decorating a windmill. How cozy would that be? Especially the little writing room at the top. That would go a long way toward easing the loss of the blue room! Dream on!

I'd hate to have to get a sofa to the top floor of a lighthouse. But lighthouses and windmills certainly are intriguing as dwelling possibilities.

I would live in one...I often look at the old sugar mills on one of the islands I used to live on and I can totally imagine living there. So nostalgic.

This is such a romantic notion, living in a windmill! But I always wanted to keep a lighthouse, so there you go.

imagine the shape you would be in going up and down the stairs of the lighthouse
