pretentiousness

i'm sick to death of pretensions (including my own). polaroids on flickr. expired film. fuji instead of kodak. medium format. pentax. cross-processing. people not talking directly to you because you're not a manager or on their level. people treating visitors like utter shit because they come from a culture the person in question obviously neither likes nor understands. grown up people. full of pretensions. full of themselves. full of shit.

  5. The preview of this post made me laugh. It's so true - people are snobs about EVERYTHING. From cameras to work places and positions, etc. You are right. If you realize it you are already winning/ahead of the curve.
Hope you relax and have a nice weekend...let all the BS drift away from you and surround yourself with good things - like your family! :)

  6. LOL i could apply some of these to blogging too. i just try to do my own thing. i never was much of a follower - i just did what appealed to me when it appealed to me. probably a good thing i was never of a criminal bent. i just laugh at snobs.

  7. Hmm. Methinks you need a nice glass of wine with some excellent cheese alongside...

  8. I totally agree with magpie, but of course I agree with anyone that suggests wine so that's kind of a no brainer.

  9. yea who cares about all that stuff...as long as you don't, it doesn't matter...

kindness matters to every person, no matter their "whatever"...and we can only be ourselves, so who cares what any one else thinks about anything anyway...

Yes as suggested.... enjoy some sweet, sweet wine and have a peaceful weekend :)

  12. Very much in agreement.

This comes very much through in the retail hierarchy! Just because I am general sales does not make me less of a person than the manager or the receptionist!

Also, I have no idea what half those camera terms actually mean...

  13. Pretentions are not good. (don't confuse them with your own artistic process though). xx

  14. Hurrah and well said!

Lately, I have been reflecting on eight years of blogging and, I think, cycles of pretension best describes a general attitude behind which people like to hide on the internet.

Not everyone, of course, but there's always some little pocket of naysayers who flaunt their material possessions, their attitude (because what skeevier place than where someone can't look you in the eye to answer back, the internet), their views and opinions, etc.

Of course, there are a beautiful bunch of souls online and forming both single friendships and group friendships, but elsewhere someone is going to flaunt their film, their yarn, their camera, their house, their garden. If I put any pressure on myself at all, I'd feel like a Stepford Wife of the internet. :)

Sorry to ramble so much. You really touched a nerve. Although I rarely comment, here or much of anywhere, you are an unique soul and I adore your style, blogging and otherwise. No pretension here. xo

comments are the new black. so be trendy and leave one.

what is, however, not trendy, is if your comment contains an ad or a link to a spam website. those, like white shoes after labor day, will be deleted.
