if you have a tractor, you really have a farm, right? and if your tractor has a big scoop thingie on the front, that's really good, right? and if you also got two barn kitties, then you're well on your way to living in the country. and if you gave the neighbor down the road permission to put his cows in your pasture this summer, then you can call yourself a farmer, right? can you see i need reassurance here? because it's quite an old tractor - a massey ferguson. it's a bit temperamental - husband had trouble starting it and then getting it in gear and he's normally pretty good at things like that. but now he's learned how (the previous owner had to come over twice this morning) and it's all good. the kitties, on the other hand, might not be so happy about their new digs, but they'll adjust, i'm sure.
now, s/he just needs a name...any suggestions?
husband did manage to get it running and pull it into the carport the other way, so that little chimney thingie wasn't in the way. and he also managed not to hit his head.
oh, and there will be a prize for whoever suggests the name we ultimately choose to call our new old tractor - the best name (as judged entirely subjectively by husband and sabin) will win. i don't yet know what, but undoubtedly something handmade. the cats, they came with names - tiger and woods, so we don't need names for them. now if i could just remember which one is tiger and which one woods...

I don't really know how to pronounce either of these. I personally like the idea of god/goddess names as tractors are about looking after the land as these gals were supposed to do (I think/guess).

I've been reading your blog for over a year but have never left a comment. Guess I felt a little like I was invading your privacy. Clearly I do not quite get the whole blogosphere thing yet....but I digress. I live in Texas and have owned many a tractor; most in much worse shape than yours. The name Bertha suddenly entered my mind. Although I was really thinking more in terms of creating new life, so I guess you would have to spell it 'Birtha' Love your posts!

I think it's a very cool tractor. To me it looks like a distant relative of Wall-E, if that helps with the naming... (I'm no good at this, I'd either go for something boring like Beeep or something extravagant like Eustachius :)

For me it conjures an image of an old, rather determined and formidable lady. She's a bit battered and worse for wear, but she is formidable in her sense of purpose. There may be days when it is hard to get her going, but once she's on course she'll plough through anything to reach her destination.
I think she carries a carpet bag and an umbrella (prepared for all eventualities) and wears a hat in all weathers.
Old Yeller, Digger, Doozie, Bubba, or maybe just Ralph! I don't think our tractors have names, my sewing machine do, however. I relate to them better when they have a moniker! Can't wait to see just what name tickles their fancy!
