thank you for the conversation
i have now closed the comments on the it's hard to be original post below. this conversation clearly struck a chord with makers and etsyians around the world - some who commented, some who emailed and many who visited silently. tho' i was simply blogging because i had something on my mind and i was trying to work it out (which is why i blog at all), i am surprised at the conversation that started. most of it fruitful.
it's clear that this is an issue that means a lot to a lot of people. i think it's difficult as independent artisans to protect our ideas and our creative endeavors and it seems we won't always be able to do so. we can only hope that the community around this handmade culture will foster an ethic and a set of norms and behaviors that mean that people do the right thing in giving credit to others for their ideas where credit is due. having the conversation we've had here is an important step in fostering that environment. and for that, i thank all of you.

in ways i'm glad i missed the debate because it seemed that it got very passionate. i enjoy great debate but it can be very trying at times to keep level heads. i always enjoy your blogs because you do invite all opinions, not just your own. so i admire the honesty and the sense of well being. now i hope the the right things happen for the right reasons. :)
good words, now rest your mind, Spring is coming and your camera is probably very happy:)
Glad I missed that one. That is some blue flower! What a color....very inspiring.
I missed it too, thankfully. May the healing begin and peace prevail.
Lovin' that beautiful blue flower. WOW!
I read that post really liked it. I was a silent visitor though...conversations like that are tough for me to get into. Not because I don't have opinions but mostly because I end up thinking about what I do, how I create, where the line is between inspiration and poaching, and how emotionally tied I am to anything that I do. (Sometimes I'm not attached at all.) Anyhow, good for you for bring it up.
I was meaning to say something but at the time I arrived, everything had already been said :)
Love the picture, so fitting, just perfect.
I missed the debate, but I can imagine how passionate it must have gotten. It was a good point to bring up. Mostly I stopped by to say, what a fabulous blue - or is it purple? - in this image!
the flower is more purple in person, but it definitely looks blue on my screen! :.-)
